Have You Thought Of Hiring A Function Band

By Elizabeth Pratt

Hiring a function band for your next major event or social function is more important than you may believe. Whether it's a wedding reception, business convention or birthday party having the right function band playing live music can transform your routine event into the social event of the season.

A function band can create and make your party turn from good to excellent and by providing top-notch quality entertainment you can make sure that people will not forget even for years to come. This can be achieved if you have invited the perfect band, and of course willing to listen and follow your easy instructions.

Getting a recommendation by word of mouth is the cheapest and most effective way in finding the right function band for you. In fact, you do not have to spend a single dime at all. Maybe your neighbors can recommend someone that can play good music, or your friend may have his or her own function band.

If you do not have the chance to see a function band perform live for you, you may want to ask them for a demo video or a cd perhaps. That way, you can get a preview of their performance and can easily choose whether you want them to perform at your party or not. It is also a great tip as it will not only get your money's worth but also get the best band that you can find. You want them to both sound and look good of course.

If possible, ask the function band representative for a list of songs that they could play along with how much they charge to perform. If they do not have a written contract, but depend on a verbal agreement, then go on and find another function band. It is even normal to be required to pay a 10-20% non-refundable deposit just to ensure that they would come to the set date.

First, find out if the function band that you are about to hire plays and takes requests. If you would inform them ahead of time, they would as they can prepare their endless list of songs to play during the event.

You may want to see their equipment as well. Check that their equipment is adequate and of course safe. It is very important that they are aware and practice safety precautions and make sure that they will follow them carefully, for instance; no loose wiring should be exposed.

Knowing the choice of their wardrobe would be essential in choosing a function band as well. Ask them, what are their preferred choices of clothes when they perform? If they have mentioned something that is not suited for the theme, you can give them ideas on what they should and should not wear. If the costume or attire that the function band would be wearing can be a little out of place, you can politely suggest something that they can wear that will compliment the theme of the event.

The band should arrive at least an hour before the event begins to set up their equipment and perform a sound check so the sound engineer can adjust the bands levels appropriately. The last thing you want is a room full of people deafened by the squeaks and squeals of feedback. It is also important to go over the events of the function with the band leader and review the set list with the band to make sure there is nothing in it that you do not want them to play.

All eyes will be on the function band when they take the stage. Do take a little extra time to go over the details when they arrive. Your band choice could make your function the event of the year and make your event a talking point for weeks afterward! - 42534
